I mentioned my rat execution chamber in my last post. The good news is that it finally caught a rat. The bad news is that I forgot to check it for a couple days. Ick.
After disposing of rat and friends in the garbage, I reset the device. This morning I peeked out in the pre-dawn darkness and saw the red light blinking again. I waited for the light of day to retrieve it - I just don't have enough fortitude to reach in there between the palm trees in the dark, especially with his surviving, and possibly seriously p***ed compadres, scurrying around in the branches above me.
When I came out to feed the chickens, I remembered to check the chamber in a timely fashion. It contained...nothing. Confused, I turned it off and back on again. Instead of the green RTG light I got the flashing low battery indicator. Disappointed in my short battery life (four D's!) I opened the battery compartment and found, I kid you not, an ant colony. I tried to get the chicks to peck it clean but they were too afraid of this new object (and yes, I did remove the batteries first) to approach it. Have I mentioned how much I hate the feeling of sugar ants crawling up my arm?

At least I didn't find a stray kitten in there.
